Becoming
a Breastfeeding-Friendly Business
For
Customers/Clients/Patrons
- Mother should
be able to sit anywhere and enjoy a welcoming attitude from the staff and
management while she breastfeeds her child.
- Staff/Employees
should be trained to handle complaints that may arise.
For Employees
-
Time-Breastfeeding mothers are given adequate time to express milk or nurse.
- Space-An
accessible, safe, clean, private space to express milk or nurse (privacy
needs and preferences should be accommodating to the mother, not forcing her
to feel like she must nurse in a secluded place, though most moms do prefer
pumping in private).
- Support-A
written breastfeeding policy that is included in personnel policies and
communicated with a welcoming attitude.
-
Flexibility-Flexibility in accommodating each breastfeeding mother's unique
situation.

"It is especially necessary
for the parental generation of the human species to fully understand what the
immaturity of its infants really signifies: that the infant is still continuing
its gestation period, passing from uterogestation to exterogestation. Among the
most important of the newborn infant's needs are the signals it receives through
the skin, the first medium of communication with the outside world." - Ashley

(among other things you can order supplemental nursing systems
and feeding aids on this site)
Our culture has been a
hindrance to breastfeeding and self-sustaining health and social models with few
opportunities to support a paradigm shift toward a better family-centered model
of care. At TheirBirthRight we are dedicating our knowledge, skills, experiences
and resources in an effort to assist families in becoming self sufficient and
learn to optimize the emotional and physical development of their children
within the context of a supportive, loving environment.

facilitating legislative change when indicated,
FirstRight has formed three committees.

Force will collect and respond to cases of
discrimination, assisting or advocating for the
mother as needed, and organizing national events
when appropriate.

FirstRight's Breastfeeding Rights Education
Committee will work to spread the word among
individuals and businesses about existing
breastfeeding rights. We encourage businesses to

"...My
deepest desire is that children are brought into
this world with more love, gentleness, and
respect than they are now, and that this gentle
treatment continues on throughout their
childhood.

The
Birth
Source
"We
are now discovering the long-term effect on
families of treating women as if they were
merely containers to be opened and relieved
of their contents; and of concentrating on a
bag of muscle and birth canal, rather than
relating to and caring for the person to
whom they belong." -Sheila

Hathor The Cow Goddess and
the Evolution Revolution
So
who is Hathor anyway?
"Hathor the
Cowgoddess is a character created by me (Heather
Cushman-Dowdee), an artist living in Los
Angeles, California. She is a superhero who
wants to save humanity through the combination
of nurture, sustainability and bonding inherent
in the practice of attachment parenting. Her
movement is called the Evolution Revolution, her
breasts are her superpower and her sidekick is
her baby, always carried in a sling and
prominently (politically) suckling at her
exposed breast."
Subscribe to the feed (no pun intended), and
Heather Cushman-Dowdee's art will come your
way... Her almost daily blog & comics are sure
to either make you smile or tick you off (not at
the her). Peruse the website and enjoy even more
than just the comics. You just might learn
something!

that women and their babies are too important to be left to the mercy of an
insensitive, expensive and interventive medical system. I think that you'll
agree with me."
